To meet the growing need for hunger relief in the Central Virginia region, the Boards of Directors of the Central Virginia Foodbank and Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia joined forces on July 1, 2008 to form FeedMore.
The formation of the newly formed umbrella organization arose from the collaborative effort between the Foodbank and Meals on Wheels to build a joint Community Kitchen that now provides thousands of healthy daily meals for children, senior citizens, and homebound adults at risk of hunger. The successful Community Kitchen campaign was the impetus for an organizational merger that continues to leverage resources from both agencies to achieve greater feeding capabilities.
The unique feeding programs offered by the Foodbank and Meals on Wheels remain consistent under FeedMore. The organization continues to fight local hunger through the Foodbank’s Food Distribution Center—which distributes food and grocery products to nearly 500 agencies who serve individuals and families in 36 Central Virginia counties and cities; the Foodbank’s Kids Café program—which provides hot, healthy meals to thousands of children in summer and after-school programs, and Meals on Wheels home meal delivery—which offers hundreds of daily meals adapted to the health needs of seniors and homebound adults.
The overarching goal of FeedMore, a 501(c)3 organization, is to provide a comprehensive approach to hunger relief and to better meet the growing demand that is ever-present for the most vulnerable populations that we serve. Together, we will FeedMore.
